PASSAGES:

The Taos Salon: In the early 1900’s Mabel Dodge (prior to her move to Taos) hosted America’s most influential salon for discussion of ideas and action. From the lavish parlors of her home in New York City emerged the leading artists, writers, and social thinkers of the twentieth century. Mabel Dodge was the catalyst for the now world famous Taos art and literary colony. She was the one responsible for bringing Georgia O’Keeffe, D.H. Lawrence, Carl Jung, Maynard Dixon, Dorothea Lang, Max Eastman, John Collier, and other prominent figures to Taos. It is in the spirit of Mabel’s legacy a salon is conducted for guests of Casa de los Pasajeros to present an overview of our historical contexts, our inhabitant’s cultural traditions, our art and literary legacies.  It stands as the most informative two hours possible for visitors to Taos. Our discussions take place at Casa de los Pasajeros, or in the rich surrounds of select galleries, sculpture gardens, artist studios, and private homes. It is also during a salon I focus upon your interests, curiosities, intellectual (and practical) travel needs, acquisition preferences, and desire to participate in rare experiences. The Taos Salon exists for those who are life-long learners, for those who explore differently than the typical tourist, for those who pursue unique travel opportunities and rare knowledge as a way of life.

Inner Passages:  Passages are only possible after a salon. It is by virtue of this standard you are guaranteed the unique opportunity to co-create where you wish to go, who you wish to meet, the nature and personal outcome of an Inner Passage. It must be emphasized that an Inner Passage is not a typical tour in any sense of the word! It is for those who desire world-class experiences, who desire personal introductions to those written about in the books (or their descendents), for those who wish to get “off the beaten path!” As a result, you will know something remarkably rare and different happened for you during a Taos and Santa Fe exploratory vacation.  Inner Passages lead you into multicultural experiences and to renowned artists (Native American, Spanish, Mexican, and Anglo) who are creating paintings, pottery, sculptors, carvings, weavings, jewelry, photography, drums, flutes, kachinas, folk art, devotional art and functional art. Most of these artists are invited annually to the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Spainsh Traditional and Folk Art Markets! During an Inner Passage, you have time for individual exploration and diversions; time for photos; time for thought, discussion, interaction with Taos residents; time for meaningful acquisition. There is no bus waiting to leave!  Passages are to sites and multi-cultural events of your interest and choice. During the day, our discussions are enlightening, eclectic, thought-provoking and fun! A festive and informative group lunch is normally part of the day. Wayfarers travel from site to site in personal cars. Of course you will be led to the more significant cultural and historical sites. However, you shall experience these settings far differently than the madding crowds! This is the promise!

Those who lodge at Casa de los Pasajeros may experience The Taos Salon and one full day of Inner Passages free of charge as a guest amenity! Passages may include The Taos Pueblo, the Mabel Dodge House, the Fechin House, the Millicent Rogers Museum, the Hacienda Martinez, the D.H. Lawrence Ranch, the Harwood Museum, select artist studios/galleries, Native American dances, Spanish Fiestas, and even private Earthship homes!

All rates for lodging, workshops, classes, seminars, and Inner Passages are determined by the number of participants. Individual cost decrease as numbers increase. Bring others!
